Clone and Add Shots in Capture

Modified on Thu, 6 Jan, 2022 at 10:02 AM

ShotFlow Capture offers the Studio team an opportunity to duplicate an existing shot with all of its attributes or add a completely new shot without any linked products. Cloning or addition of a shot is useful in many scenarios including the need for an additional angle of a product, a late addition where metadata can be appended at a later time, or to address color variants of a product for which shots were not previously created.

How to Clone a Shot

1. From the Shot List, find the shot that should be duplicated.

2. Highlight the shot and right click to bring up the contextual menu, or in the Shot Detail Section, choose the gear icon. Choose to Clone and a window will open with a Clone Shot Form. (You may also highlight the shot, and choose the gear or three dot menu icon at the top of the window to pull up the contextual menu.)

3. By default, all of the values for the cloned shot will be pre-populated with the information from the original shot.

4. The Title will default to the original shot title. The title can be changed; however, best practices recommend that it should remain unique.

5. The naming convention will default to the original naming convention. Again, this too can be changed to meet the desired naming convention criteria.

6. The Status of the Shot will be set as Ready and can be changed, but should remain in the Ready status for the Shot to show on the Shot List in ShotFlow capture.

7. The Shot Type will default to the original shot type. It may be changed to whichever type should be fulfilled.

8. Beyond these standard fields, there may be additional fields like retouching notes that can be edited only if they are editable in the detail view window as well and included in the capture Clone form. Some fields will not be cloned during the cloning process as they are unique to each shot based on captures:

  • Status (should be default of Ready)

  • Actual Shot Duration

  • Date Shot

  • Day Shot

  • # of Captures

  • Captured on Set

  • Captured on Shot List

  • Captured By

9. When all of the criteria has been set, click on OK.

10. The shot will be created and identified by an unread shot notification in the Shot List.

Cloning a Shot with Grouping

If you want to define a new Shot that is linked to a new Grouping based on an existing Shot & Grouping, without modifying either of the existing records, so that you can modify combinations of products on-Set in a way that mimics your real-world workflow, you can choose to Clone a Shot with a Grouping. This only applies to shots with a single related grouping.

During the cloning process, follow the steps above in Cloning a Shot, but instead, choose to Clone Shot and Grouping. This will clone both the Shot and the related Grouping, so the cloned Shot is related only to the cloned Grouping.

You are now able to edit the Related Products for the cloned Shot provided the  Products - Mode - Manage from Set Shot List setting is enabled.

How to Add a Shot

1. With the Shot List that the new Shot should be added to highlighted, from the right click contextual menu or gear (or three dots) menu, choose Add Shot.

2. The Add Shot form will open. The fields in the Add Shot form are identical to those of the Clone Form discussed earlier in this article.

3. If the Shot List is configured with a Default Shot Type, the newly added shot will inherit that shot type and cannot be changed. If no Default Shot Type is set, all of the shot types are available to be chosen from.

4. Fill out the rest of the fields and once satisfied, click Save.

5. The shot will be created and identified by an unread shot notification in the Shot List.
