How Do I Wipe Local Data or Wipe All Data?

Modified on Wed, 27 Jul, 2022 at 1:23 PM

ShotFlow capture utilizes local caching. AWS defines caching: "In computing, a cache is a high-speed data storage layer which stores a subset of data, typically transient in nature, so that future requests for that data are served up faster than is possible by accessing the data’s primary storage location. Caching allows you to efficiently reuse previously retrieved or computed data."

Caching reduces latency, increases performance, and makes content available during network interruptions. Over time, it is possible that the cache may become outdated or stale causing unexpected behaviors in capture. Some factors that contribute to stale cache are:

  • System or application crashes.
  • Hard restarts: restarting a frozen or hung system via the power button.
  • Power outages.
  • Bad sectors on your Mac OS X startup disk.
  • Defective or failing hard drives.
  • Application installers which have improperly reset System-related permissions.

When the cache has become outdated, users may need to clear the old cache so that a new cache can be generated.

When a user chooses to log out of ShotFlow capture, the local data is wiped. A data wipe also occurs when upgrading to a newer version of ShotFlow capture.

To manually clear the cache in ShotFlow capture:

1. Launch ShotFlow Capture, but do not log in.

2. Navigate to "Admin" menu from the top bar.

3. Choose "Wipe Local Data", then "Wipe All Data"

***If already logged in, close ShotFlow Capture, then proceed with the steps above. The option to Wipe Data while logged in will be greyed out.

Please note that clearing the cache, or wiping local data, is not a permanent solution. It is a troubleshooting step much like rebooting your device or clearing your internet cookies.

Please also note that wiping local data will require logging into capture again before shooting offline. If you have been shooting offline, ensure that you initiate a sync of the data before wiping local data.
