Best Practices: Importance of Templates and Consistency for Successful Data Ingest

Modified on Fri, 8 Apr, 2022 at 3:21 PM

ShotFlow imports client data from various systems of record using a defined and agreed upon template. To ensure a successful ingest of data, we recommend the following considerations:

1. Do not change column header names. Any desired changes to the naming of the column headers should first be shared with ShotFlow so that we may make the required changes on our side to accommodate.

2. Do not remove or add columns. Some columns are required to generate or update records in ShotFlow. Additional columns are not accounted for and therefore, will not be included in the data.

3. Ensure data is complete for all rows. There are values in the data that trigger certain behaviors in ShotFlow. For example, if your product is missing a SKU, and the configuration requires a SKU for a product to be created in ShotFlow, the product and any related records would not be generated.

4. Remove empty rows. Inclusion of empty rows can cause issues with ingesting data.

5. Remove unsupported special characters. Inclusion of unsupported special characters can cause an ingest to fail or records to be excluded from creation/update. Please refer to this KB article outlining supported special characters: Using Special Characters in Data Ingest Files
