Background

Caching reduces latency, increases performance, and makes content available during network interruptions. Over time, it is possible that the cache may become outdated or stale causing unexpected behaviors in ShotFlow Capture.

AWS: "In computing, a cache is a high-speed data storage layer which stores a subset of data, typically transient in nature, so that future requests for that data are served up faster than is possible by accessing the data’s primary storage location. Caching allows you to efficiently reuse previously retrieved or computed data."

Benefits of wiping local data/cache.

Caching's benefits encompass reduced latency, enhanced performance, and content accessibility despite network disruptions. However, it's important to acknowledge that cache can grow outdated or "stale" over time, leading to unexpected behaviors during capture. Common factors contributing to stale cache include:

  • System or application crashes.
  • Hard restarts: restarting a frozen or hung system via the power button.
  • Power outages.
  • Bad sectors on your Mac OS X startup disk.
  • Defective or failing hard drives.
  • Application installers which have improperly reset System-related permissions.

How To

When the cache has become outdated, users may need to clear the old cache so that a new cache can be generated.

There are two types of wiping local data that happens in the application:

Automatic

When a user chooses to log out of ShotFlow capture, the local data is wiped. A data wipe also occurs when upgrading to a newer version of ShotFlow capture.

Manual

To manually clear the cache in ShotFlow capture:

  1.  Launch ShotFlowCapture, but do not log in.
  2. Navigate to the "Admin" menu from the top bar.
  3. Choose "Wipe Local Data," then "Wipe All Data"

If already logged in, close ShotFlow Capture, then proceed with the steps above. The option to Wipe Data while logged in will be greyed out.

However, it's important to note that clearing cache or wiping local data isn't a permanent solution. It's akin to rebooting your device or clearing internet cookies – a troubleshooting measure.

Furthermore, wiping local data necessitates logging back into Capture before offline shooting. If you've been shooting offline, ensure you initiate a data sync before clearing local data.

Mastering caching in ShotFlow Capture enhances your experience by maintaining optimum performance. Should you encounter any queries or require assistance, don't hesitate to reach out. Your seamless workflow remains our priority.
