FAQs for Image and Video Metadata Application in ShotFlow using Drag and Drop

Modified on Wed, 4 Sep at 11:36 AM

  1. Can I apply metadata to images that were captured outside of ShotFlow? Yes, you can apply metadata to images that were captured elsewhere, such as from a vendor or a memory card used for untethered shooting.

  2. What if the images were captured under the wrong Shot in ShotFlow? You can still assign those images to the correct Shots using the drag-and-drop method in ShotFlow Capture, which allows you to adjust the metadata accordingly.

  3. Can I use images that were captured for Shot A to fulfill Shot B? Yes, as long as the images meet the criteria for Shot B (e.g., an outfit fulfilling both pants and blouse Shots), you can drag and drop them to the appropriate Shot in ShotFlow.

  4. What about leveraging images for a missing colorway that cannot be shot? If images were captured for an existing colorway but are needed for a missing one, you can assign them to the Shot for the missing colorway using the same process.

  5. What file types does this process work for? This process supports both RAW files and processed formats (JPEG, TIFF, etc.), as well as video files.

  6. Do I need to create a new Shot List, or can I use an existing one? You can either use an existing Shot List or create a new one. If batch processing  is needed, deactivate Auto Sub Folder Generation to simplify the process.

  7. How do I assign the Shot List to a Set in ShotFlow? Assign the Shot List to a Set not in active use, ensuring the Shot List Status is set to "Ready" or "In Progress" to make it visible in ShotFlow Capture.

  8. How do I apply images or videos to specific Shots in ShotFlow? In ShotFlow Capture, select the Shots you want to apply images to, highlight them, and drag the files over until a [plus] symbol appears. The images will then be processed for the selected Shot(s).

  9. What happens after I drop files into the Shot in ShotFlow Capture? Each file will be copied, named, tagged, and counted as a capture for the selected Shot. The Shot’s status will change to "In Progress," and the metadata will be updated accordingly.

  10. What do I do if I haven’t designated a base capture folder? A popup may prompt you to choose a folder if Capture One is not running. Select or create a folder and note its location for further use.

  11. How do I process files in Capture One after applying metadata in ShotFlow? Once all files have been dragged and dropped, open Capture One Pro, navigate to the folder where the files are stored, select all captures, and apply a process recipe to generate the new files with the correct metadata and naming.

  12. Is it better to drag and drop files from Finder or from Capture One? ShotFlow recommends dragging and dropping files from MacOS Finder, as results from Capture One can be inconsistent.
