SuperViews Release (deployed 1/14/2022)

NOTE: THIS RELEASE ALTERS CORE WEB BROWSER NAVIGATION IN SHOTFLOW. THESE CHANGES REQUIRE TRAINING AND SUPPORT FOR PRODUCTION TEAMS TO ENSURE A SMOOTH TRANSITION

What’s New?

  • MULTIPLE ENHANCEMENT TO VIEWS, including:
    • A new "Views" header has been added to the left navigation pane for accessing Views available to the user's role. Views can now be accessed directly as an "object" and are no longer accessed from within the prior "Tables" navigation header.
    • Views home page. Views now have their own "home page" similar to Charts, Reports and Calendars, instead of listed on a pull-down menu within each Table. Each View shows as a "card" with an array of information about the View. The additional information visible includes the Table the View is based on, the description, a [filter] icon that is enabled if the View has saved filtering, and a [lock] icon to indicate locked Views (users cannot edit the View without special permissions).
    • Views can be displayed as cards or a list on Views home page. The user can toggle this via the "Display" button at the top of the Views navigation.
    • Each user's View "favorites" display at the top of the Views home page for quick access. The [heart] icon on each View can be enabled to bring that View to the top of the screen for that specific user (this does not impact other users in the same Role). Initially, the "favorite" Views have been tagged based on the default Views for the user's role (one per table) which were migrated from the prior Table-based UI. As users access the platform, they can add and remove those favorite designations themselves, so every user can have a custom set of favorite Views
    • New Views home page searching/filtering controls. Views can be displayed and searched by name, or filtered to only show by table.
    • New [View Filtered] visual indicator. In prior state, a View with saved filtering showed the same indicator as a temporarily applied advance search filter (both were displayed as [Contains Advanced Search]). Now View filtering displays as a distinct [View Filtered] icon, whereas a temporary search is displayed separately. This clearly distinguishes saved filtering from temporary filtering (see below for additional changes to View filtering functionality.
  • MAJOR UPGRADES TO VIEWS CONFIGURABILITY, including:
    • [Create {record}] button configurability. A View can now display the [Create {record}] button for only the source Table (as in prior state), or the [Create] button can offer several options to create new records for certain related tables. The [Create] button can also be removed entirely from the View.
    • Record-level View, Edit, Clone and Delete buttons can extend to related table(s). When the [Create {record}] button is enabled for more than one type of record, this functionality extends into the View, Edit, Clone and Delete buttons for individual records in the View (buttons are still displayed based on role permissions). For example, if a View on the Shots table is enabled for creating a Shot List record and at least on field from the Shot List table is included in the View, the user can view, edit, clone or delete a Shot List related to a Shot record directly from the Shots View.
    • Action buttons can be added from related tables. For example, a View on the Shots table could include Action button(s) for Shot Lists, Product Children, etc. This can significantly reduce or eliminate the need to navigate away from a single View to accomplish work related to other data objects.
    • Action buttons can be sorted and hidden per View. Action buttons can be displayed in whatever order the configuring user determines, or hidden from the View to simplify the choices for the user when interacting with the View. Previously, Action buttons were sorted alphanumeric only, and all Action buttons for a table were shown for every View based on that table.
    • View filtering configuration now integrated with other configuration elements. Previously, applying saved filtering to a View required configuring and saving the filtering independently from the other configuration elements. Now filtering configuration is part of the same configuration screen as all other View configuration controls.
  • ENHANCEMENTS TO CHARTS AND EVENTS SEARCH, including:
    • Searching Charts by table enables selection from a menu. When selecting “Table” from the Charts home page, the search input is now a drop down list of all tables in the app. Selecting a table displays only Charts based on that table.
    • Searching Charts by type enables selection from a menu. When selecting “Type” from the Charts home page, the search input is now a drop down list of all Chart types (bar, pie, etc.). Selecting a types displays only Charts of that type.
    • Searching Calendar Events by table enables selection from a menu. When selecting “Table” from the Events home page, the search input is now a drop down list of all tables sorted alphabetically. Selecting a table displays only Events based on that table.

What Did We Change?

  • "Tables" navigation header functionality. "Tables" in the left nav pane no longer displays a list of tables with access to table views, it now provides access Table-related settings for roles that have advanced Table permissions, including managing Table Actions, Forms, Fields, and Labels. Roles without advanced Table permissions will no longer see the "Tables" left nav header.
  • Filtering cannot be saved to a View when interacting with a View. Users can no longer save new filtering to a View "on the fly" when interacting with the View. Any filtering applied through Simple, Advanced and/or List Search is only temporary during the current interaction, and will not be applied the next time the View is accessed. This behavior aligns with existing Charts functionality. For filtering to be included with a View, it must be configured within the View itself by a user with appropriate permissions.
  • View filters (formerly saved searches) are not removable when interacting with a View. For Views that include filtering, it is no longer removable by the user "on the fly" when interacting with the View. This behavior aligns with existing Charts functionality. All existing Views that had saved filtering in prior state have been updated to include that filtering as configured within the View, so users will have the same filtered experience when loading the View, but can no longer remove that filtering, per Major upgrades to Views configurability, above
  • View filter information is shown when accessing Advanced Search. For Views that include a filter, the user can see the filter settings when selecting Advanced Search. This enables the user to see what conditions are already applied to the data as part of the View configuration, so they can determine what Advanced Search criteria to apply on top of the existing filter.

What Did We Fix?

  • Error when opening a Calendar from a Report. Attempting to open a Calendar from within a Report was producing a "Calendar does not exist" error. Fixed!
